28 March, 2022 (Entebbe, UGANDA): The IGAD FSI successfully conducted a three-days training on ‘Executive training in leadership and diplomatic skills: Communication and negotiation’.
Communication and negotiation are at the core of IGAD activities for development purposes, cooperation endeavors and in integration processes, peace and security issues among other challenges affecting regional economic integration.
On his opening remarks, Amb. Moussa Ali Meigague, the Director of the IGAD Foreign Service Institute, welcomed all participants. In his keynote speech, the Director noted that the Ministries of Foreign affairs are the IGAD focal points. He further added “In order to accelerate the process of regional economic integration everyone needs to be on board and carry out the IGAD ES vision. We need your active participation and your inputs throughout all the training to identify where are the challenges”.
At the end of the three days, participants developed effective communication techniques that will be crucial for them in complex regional negotiations. They also learned about cultural differences in verbal and nonverbal communication and their impact on negotiation.
This training was conducted with financial support from the European Union through European Union Trust Fund (EUTF) through the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) under the IPPSHAR Program.
