October 18, 2021 (Mombasa, Kenya): The IGAD Foreign Service Institute (IFSI) held a four-day training in Mombasa, Kenya from October 18-21, 2021, focused on developing a Resource Mobilization Strategy. The workshop aimed to equip IFSI staff with the skills to secure funding for the Institute’s future operations and programs.
The primary goal of the training was to enhance the resource mobilization skills of IFSI staff. Participants were introduced to key concepts and best practices in fundraising and resource management. By the end of the workshop, the team was expected to:
- Understand the fundamental principles of resource mobilization.
- Identify potential donors, networks, and funding opportunities to support IFSI’s work.
- Develop a comprehensive, actionable resource mobilization strategy to secure future funding.
- Create a long-term management model to ensure the sustainability of IFSI’s activities.
In addition, the workshop encouraged collaboration among the team members, drawing upon their individual experiences and ideas to craft a solid strategy for attracting donors and funding partners.
Amb. Moussa Ali Meigague, Director of IFSI, opened the workshop, thanking the European Union (EU) for its support through the Austrian Development Agency (ADA). The workshop employed interactive learning methods, including group discussions, case studies, and practical exercises to help participants apply resource mobilization strategies to real-life scenarios.
Using interactive exercises, group discussions, and examples from the organization, the facilitator drew upon participants’ experience, knowledge, and ideas to identify potential donors, networks, tools, and strategies they need to develop and implement a successful resource mobilization strategy.
At the end of the workshop, a long-term management model was developed to ensure sustainable resource management, and a comprehensive resource mobilization was created to attract donors and secure funding for IFSI’s future activities.
The training was funded by the European Union Trust Fund (EUTF) through the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), under the IPPSHAR program. This partnership highlights the EU’s commitment to strengthening regional institutions and supporting development in the Horn of Africa.
